One of the hardest things for people to do is to deal with their messy closets.  First off the messiness can be contributing to many factors but one main factor is lack of organization.  When your closet is organized it is much easier to keep clean because every item has an assigned location.

Below are some of the most common closet dilemmas and some solutions to rectify them.

plastic hangers

Hangers – Are you still using wire hangers?  Do you find your hangers tend to get all tangled up with most of your clothing gathering up on the floor?  The solution to this dilemma is to invest in wooden or plastic hangers.  Wooden and/or plastic hangers are much more functional than wire hangers and you don’t have to worry about the annoying crease on your pants created by the wire hangers.  A small investment will keep your clothes from piling up on the floor and keep your closet looking more uniformed and organized.

Shoes – Are you always searching for a missing shoe?  Do you have piles of boxes in your closet and have no idea what shoes are contained within them? There are many different methods used to organize shoes and implementing one will depend on the size of your closet and the amount of shoes involved.  You can implement a simple canvas shoe rack or a shelving unit at the bottom of your closet.  If you like to keep your shoes in boxes, you can place them in Plastic Shoeboxes with either labels or pictures of the shoes contained.  There are simple solutions, which will keep your shoes and your closet organized.

There may also be items in your closet that may be taking up space that can be placed in a different place in your home.  For instance, if you have blankets or linens in your closet consider placing them in a separate linen closet or place them in a storage case under your bed.  It is important to keep your closet organized with the items that belong there.  If you remove the unnecessary items, you will find your closet remains clean and organized and easier to keep up with.

The best way to keep any project organized is by categorizing. Using storage containers and grouping items will keep your area not only clutter-free but you will be able to locate items quicker and easier.  Using the categorization process in your closet will help keep your closet clean as well.

Categorizing your closet is not a difficult task.  You must first begin by removing all the items.  Determine if you are going to categorize by color or items such as shirts, pants, skirts, etc.  You can also categorize further by hanging clothes and those that must be folded.  Once this is determined you can begin to group your items. You can utilize shelves to place the folded clothes and the use of baskets and drawers will help in organizing your closet as well.

Another great way to organize your closet and keep things together is by using hooks. Hooks work great for belts, ties, hats and purses.  If you are lucky enough to have a closet large enough you may decide to keep your jewelry in there as well.  Keeping everything in one place will make it easier to make your choices in the morning.  You may decide on a traditional jewelry box or use decorative boxes and hooks for smaller items. Perhaps a mannequin would work as well where you can display the outfit you will work the next morning.  closet storage hooks

Categorizing your closet will keep all your items in one place and easier to find.
Once you have a system developed it will be easier to maintain and keep clean.  Think outside of the box for organizing.  Who says you have to use traditional organizing shelving units, consider using an antique dresser or baker’s rack in your closet.  You’d me amazed at the everyday items that can be used to help organize your space.  As long as you keep items categorized you will be less stressed because your closets will be a joy to approach. The possibilities are endless.
