Organize My ClosetIf you are like me… I need help with trying to organize my closet.

If your closet is no longer able to hold any more contents, perhaps it is time to consider organizing it. There are designs you can do on your own, following a picture you have seen or simply purchase and assemble yourself.

But which one organizing solution is for you?

That really depends on the situation. While ready-made pieces are easy to set up, their drawback is that these are made of light weight material so the shelves could bend.

You can prevent this by not putting a lot of items on the shelves but this is sometimes unavoidable and defeats the purpose of organizing it!

When this happens, it is only a matter of time before the shelves are not straight anymore and you will have to buy a new one.

While you can make a similar shelf by buying some wood from the hardware store, it will probably be a good idea to make it yourself.

As mentioned earlier, you can get ideas of how to design a closet simply by looking at pictures and then trying to copy it. The best part is that you are the one who gets to choose the material to be used.

The best closet to make is made from either wood or metal and you can buy the materials from the hardware store.

Once you bring it home, you just have to cut it to the proper proportions and assemble.

  • Most closets are part of the wall so you start by installing bottom and top plates before putting in the studs as this will serve as the foundation of the closet before you nail in the wallboards.
  • Next, you put in the door jamb and the door stop so it can be opened and closed properly. The last part is to install the doors. You have to hold the doors in position and screw to the hinges.
  • To make the closet match the rest of the room, you will have to paint it. It is best to use light colors for your closet. When painting, always apply two coats. You only coat it the second time after the first coating has dried,

Should you paint the inside of the closet?

That is up to you since some people don’t bother given that nobody will mind if it was not painted. If you have spare paint, it wouldn’t hurt to do the same.

  • You must first clean the closet removing both dust and grease that may be present.
  • Inspect the closet for cracks. If there are, use wood putty to cover the holes and then sandpaper it before painting.
  • Make sure you put masking tape on the hinges and other portions that are not part of the paint job. When you paint the closet, make sure that you always work on the inside first before moving outside.
  • For those hard to reach areas, replace the paint brush with a can of spray paint. When you use spray paint, don’t forget to shake the can first and then work your way up and down not left to right.

If you are happy with the closet renovation, then it is time to put the contents back onto the shelves.

Fresh and clean… that’s the way we like to organize my closet!
