When the weather begins to warm up and the snow begins to melt, we are in much happier spirits.  These happy thoughts get us in the cleaning mood known as Spring Cleaning.  Some may tackle their garage and even clean the windows but we must also tackle our closets.  Springtime is the perfect time to organize the closet and give it a refreshed new look.

The last thing you want is to wrestle with bulky winter clothes while searching for the perfect spring outfit.  Unless you have a large closet where you can rotate your clothing, it is time to remove the winter clothes and make room for the lighter spring and summer clothing.  To keep items organized it is wise to devise an inventory list of all your winter clothing and pack away in rubber storage containers.  Label the containers with the name of the person the item belongs to and a description of items within the container.  For children’s clothing you might consider labeling with sizes as well.  This makes life easier when rotating clothes with the change of season.  It will be easier to determine if the younger sibling will fit into the clothing or if it is time to donate.

Another great tool for storage of winter or seasonal clothing are the large bags that you can remove the air from. These bags are wonderful for storage and will fit directly under your bed for easy access.  If you are blessed with a large closet you may want to consider placing garbage or dry-cleaning bags over the items you won’t be using that particular season to keep the clothing clean.  Once you have the clothing covered you can place in the back end of your closet and bring up the lighter clothes for easy access.

Whatever method you decide to implement, don’t just clean your windows or your yard during the spring, use that energy to organize your closet and make it easier to find your favorite summer outfit. Not only will it be easier to determine what you have but you will get into the habit of doing this routine for every season and never worry about a messy closet.
